ARKANSAS CITY - Arron Sipp, 39, of Sipp Trucking, Grenada, Miss., sustained minor injuries early this morning when the tractor-trailer he was driving overturned into the median on U.S. 77 north of Arkansas City at the highway's intersection with the 77 bypass.

He was headed west on the bypass, apparently to turn north, but was unfamiliar with the road and did not anticipate a stop sign, said Cowley County Undersheriff Bill Mueller. Sipp continued west and didn't see the stop sign at the turnoff. He made a hard right turn when he saw traffic in the southbound lanes heading toward him, Mueller said.

Sipp was trapped in the cab of his Freightliner truck for a while after the accident, which occurred 6:40 a.m. Firefighters dispatched to the scene freed him, and he did not need to be transported to the hospital.

Sipp was hauling sheet metal on a flatbed trailer.
