County firemen battle Kingsdown oil blaze
By Claire O'Brien
Dodge City Globe - January 29, 2009

KINGSDOWN -
Over 4,000 gallons of crude oil sitting dangerously close to a
gas line burst into flames Thursday about two miles west of
Kingsdown, prompting fire officials to erect barricades and post
road crews on county roads 124 and 122.
The fire, apparently a spontaneous combustion, erupted at
approximately 2 p.m. and was quickly reported to authorities.
When four trucks from Ford County Fire and Rescue arrived on the
scene, vapor flames extended about six feet above the tank, but
little smoke was visible.
The presence of a live gas line only three feet deep prevented
firefighters from approaching the fire. They monitored the blaze
from about 300 yards away while road crews prevented any traffic
from entering the area.
