Six-Year-Old Playing with Lighter Starts Wichita Apartment Fire

Fire officials say a six-year-old boy playing with a lighter sparked an apartment fire this afternoon. It happened in the 900 block of S. Bleckley.

Police say the child caught a mattress on fire with his mom's lighter. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The fire was contained to a single room in the home, but firefighters had a hard time putting out the fire because people who live in the complex kept trying to run over their water hoses.

No word on damage estimates.
