Fire destroys house

No injuries were reported following a blaze Sunday afternoon that destroyed a house in northeast Leavenworth, a Fire Department spokesman said.

"You could see the smoke from anywhere in the city," Assistant Fire Chief Mike Lingenfelser said.

The fire was reported at 4:28 p.m. Sunday at 213 N. Third St.

Fire investigators were at the scene Monday morning but there was no word later in the day about what is believed to have been the cause of the blaze.

Lingenfelser said he believes the house was vacant at the time of the fire. Natural gas service had been shut off to the two-story home.
