Kansas Fallen Firefighters Memorial Update

As of 12/06 there was a total of $18,225.20 in the memorial fund account. There are 8 fire service organizations that have seats on the memorial committee--in the last several months we have lost half of our committee members due to retirements, etc. We are in the process of having those organizations that lost their representatives submit names to the governor for selection. As soon as the new members are selected, we will have a meeting to get the new members up to speed. Karl McNorton has the RFPs done—he is currently having the Division of Purchasing look them over for approval. After they are approved, we will send them out to artists so they can send us their ideas for the memorial. We will then interview the artists, select one, and then start soliciting businesses for funds. We were awarded a $5,000 grant with Kansas Gas Service.
