Fire crews were kept busy last week with several grass fires reported across Greenwood County. Most of the fires were put out without damage to outbuildings, except for one grass fire that was reported at Browning Ranch, located at 360th and P Road.
According to Greenwood County Fire Chief Doug Williams, Madison and Hamilton Divisions of Greenwood County Fire Department responded to the report on Friday March 3, around 5:15 p.m. Upon arrival, fire crews found a fire involving an old one room, stone schoolhouse and approximately 100 acres of grass fire. Firefighters extinguished the grass fire, but the schoolhouse was totally burned with only the stone walls left standing.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but suspicious in nature.
