James R. Maxwell, 78, son of Earl S. Maxwell and Bessie M. Daniels, passed away Feb. 8, 2017, at a hospital in Edinburg, Texas.
James and Joyce Green were married in July of 1956 and had over 60 years of good times.
He worked in Maintenance at the Osawatomie State Hospital for 46 1/2 years. He retired in 2002.
James has always strived to serve his community. He helped start the ambulance service in the 1970s. He was a reserve police officer and a part-time dispatcher.
His heart's work was with the Osawatomie Volunteer Fire Department. He served at the Fire Dept. from 1971 until he retired in 2003, most of these years were as Fire Chief. James had great respect for his men and really missed it after he retired. Among those preceding him in death were his parents, sister Pauline Harrison and brother Marion Maxwell.
Survivors include his wife Joyce of the home; his son James Jr. (Carol) of Arkansas City, Kan.; daughters Janine Sullivan (Mike) and Joy Maxwell (Chris) of Osawatomie; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
