Crews battle brush fire in northeast Wichita

KWCH – March 22, 2017

It was a close call for some homes, but none were damaged as Wichita fire crews extinguished a brush fire Tuesday afternoon in the area of K-96 between Webb and Greenwich Road.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze before it spread to a neighborhood, but they remained on scene to monitor hot spots.

A Wichita Fire Department captain says crews responded to the fire at about 2:30 p.m. and had it out in about 45 minutes.

The captain says 11 units responded. He says the fire started near K-96, but does not know how it started. The fire burned between four and five acres, the captain says.
