    The City of Great Bend has full-time FF/EMS openings. If you have been searching for a rewarding, hands-on career, now is the time to apply! This position responds to emergency situations including fires, persons trapped, hazardous conditions, and medical emergencies. This position will also inspect equipment daily, conduct safety training for the community, inspects fire hydrants, and completes all necessary training.

    After completion of the training period, this position will work 24-hour shifts. Weekend and holiday work is required. Firefighters are expected to respond to major emergency calls when off duty.

    Aptitude, physical agility and background investigations will be conducted and, after the interview process for qualified candidates, job offers will be contingent on pre-employment physical ability testing and drug screening.

    The requirements of the position are as follows: Valid Kansas driver's license, high school diploma or GED is required and as well as training as an EMT, Paramedic and/or Fire Science. The ideal candidate will have the ability to read and interpret written instructions and have strong communication skills.

    FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER

    The Fairmount Township Fire Department in Basehor, Kansas is currently seeking highly motivated men and women who are passionate about serving the public and delivering the highest level of professional service to a growing community as a firefighter. This entry level position is an operational position assigned to serve the community in emergency response and mitigation efforts to save lives and protect property. The positions work under supervision to perform a variety of critical fire department functions including: firefighting, rescue, emergency medical response and patient care, fire safety inspections, preplans, public education, efficient operation of equipment, and maintenance of facilities.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    1.      Applicants must have a Kansas Driver’s License, High School Diploma or GED, and IFSAC certified minimum Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Awareness, and Hazardous Materials Operations. Emergency Medical Technician Certification in the State of Kansas or National Registry, and NIMS 700, ICS 100 & 200 at time of application to be considered for appointment. Internal applicants must be a member in good standing and may apply without the Firefighter 2 or EMT certification. Applicants will be required to sign a letter of agreement to obtain the Firefighter 2 or EMT certification within 18 months of their hire date or face termination.

    2.      Candidates who don’t have at least 2 years part time employment with Fairmount Township must have successfully passed two tests: The Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within the prior year (copy required with application) and the Written Fire Service Entrance Exam (FSEE) with a score of 70 percent or better within the prior two years. (copy required with application)

    Ideal candidates should have basic knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and equipment employed in modern firefighting; fire hazards and fire prevention techniques; and the application of fire records to fire prevention, fire protection, and Fire/EMS report writing. Candidates should be able to perform all functions associated with fire suppression, EMS, rescue, fire prevention, and station/equipment maintenance activities as assigned by the department. Candidates should also have the ability to communicate effectively and portray a positive image of the organization to the general public and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the organization and outside agencies.

    Desirable qualifications include: certifications for Driver Operator, Fire Inspector, and a related associate’s degree, supplemented by formal training in firefighting techniques; or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

    COMPENSATION

    The starting salary for the Full-Time Firefighter position is approximately $37,739.52, plus benefits. This position will work a 24-hour Berkeley shift schedule: 24 hours on (8 a.m. to 8 a.m.), 24 hours off, 24 hours on (8 a.m. to 8 a.m.), 24 hours off, 24 hours on (8 a.m. to 8 a.m.), four days off. Then the schedule repeats.

    Currently accepting applications for a full-time, entry level Police/Fire Officer position with the Metropolitan Topeka Airport Authority (MTAA) Police and Fire Department. Pursuant to K.S.A. 74-5616(1) applicants must be 21 years of age to be certified as a Kansas Law Enforcement Officer. Police and/or fire background desired. Must be able to work a 24-hour shift schedule consisting of 24-hours on duty followed by 48 hours off-duty, and to work overtime as requested. Starting entry level annual salary of $34,278 plus benefits including health insurance and participation in KPERS (Kansas Public Employee Retirement System). The Police/Fire Officer I is classified as a Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) non-exempt position.

    Job Responsibilities Include:
    The employee is responsible for protecting life and property within the Topeka Regional Airport jurisdiction by performing ARFF (Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting), law enforcement, structural fire suppression, wildland fire suppression, wildlife control, emergency medical care, vehicle rescue and hazardous materials responses. Although current police, fire fighter and/or EMT experience, training or qualifications are desired, MTAA Police and Fire will provide basic training and qualifications to competent applicants after hiring.
